Kempsville Elementary Library Happenings

On September 18th, students at KES kicked off the Accelerated Reader program.  Students will be earning points by reading books and taking AR quizzes.  Students will have a monthly goal from Mr. Beard and a grading period goal set by their teacher.  Students can earn reading charms by making Mr. Beard’s goal.  Students earning the grading period goal will be recognized at Pride Assemblies.  There is a display near the library that keeps track of student points.  It is updated weekly by parent volunteers.  So far this year KES students have earned 1524 points.  Way to go Indians!

Are you “Buggy for Books”? Summer is the perfect time to read. Join the Kempsville Elementary summer reading program. Students who read for 500 minutes will earn rewards and will be invited to our fall celebration. Look for a “Buggy for Books” reading log in your June 5th buddy folder or come by the library. Completed logs need to be returned to the KES library by September 18th.

Thank you to all the students, parents and volunteers who made the “Camp Read a Book” Fair such a success.  Gross sales were over $8000 with 25% coming back to the library.  These funds are being used to purchase additional AR quizzes and audio-visuals to support the curriculum.  Your generosity will benefit all KES Indians!

KES students are super readers!  As of March 14th, students have earned 6954 points by reading  AR books and taking quizzes.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

                     “CAMP READ A BOOK” is coming to the KES Library Media Center on Thursday, March 30th until April 5th.  This is a PTA fund raiser for the library.  Money raised will be used to purchase AR quizzes and books. The Book Fair will be open daily from 8:00 - 3:30. There will be a family night event on Friday, March 31th in conjunction with the KES Art Auction.  The book fair will be open from 5:30 - 7:00 and then again after the auction.  Join the fun and get bitten by the book bug!       KES STUDENTS ARE BUZZY ABOUT BOOKS!
